Welcome to the AMC Radio Club, a friendly, open community for anyone with an interest in radio. Everyone is welcome. Whether you hold a Full amateur radio licence, have just passed your Foundation, are studying for your first licence, enjoy CB or licence-free radio, like shortwave listening, digital modes, antennas, electronics, portable operating, contesting, satellites or you’re simply curious about radio there is a place for you at the AMC.

AMC is changing. We want to make the club as open and accessible as possible, so there are no membership fees and no annual subscription. You don’t need to pay to belong, and you don’t need years of experience or an impressive station. You simply need an interest in radio and a willingness to be part of a friendly community. Our aim is to bring people together, encourage activity on the air and help people enjoy this fantastic hobby.

Everyone Has Something to Contribute

One of the things that makes radio special is the huge variety of people involved. Some of our community have decades of experience, while others may have bought their first radio yesterday. The AMC is a place where that experience can be shared without judgment or elitism. There are no silly questions. Ask for advice, share your station, tell us about a contact you’ve made, show us an antenna you’ve built, join a discussion, or simply come along and listen. You don’t have to be an expert to get involved.

More Than Just a Radio Club

The AMC has always been about more than callsigns and radios. It’s about the friendships that develop around a shared interest. We have members and friends across the UK and around the world, and our Discord community gives everyone somewhere to chat, ask questions, share information and generally enjoy the social side of radio. We also organise and support radio activities including nets, portable operating, field days, competitions, special events, talks and informal get-togethers. Our Sunday Radio TED Talks cover everything from making your first contact and understanding SWR to antennas, propagation, digital modes and more advanced amateur radio topics. On Friday evenings, we get together in Discord voice chat for an informal catch-up; we usually talk radio, although we can’t promise the conversation will stay on radio all evening!

New to Amateur Radio?

You’re especially welcome. Getting started in amateur radio can sometimes feel daunting. Callsigns, band plans, antennas, SWR, propagation, modes and equipment can seem like another language when you’re new. That’s exactly why communities like AMC exist. Come and ask questions. Our more experienced operators are happy to share what they’ve learned and help newcomers progress from their first interest in radio through Foundation, Intermediate and Full licences – and, most importantly, help them get on the air and enjoy using their licence.

It’s Your Community

The AMC isn’t about titles, status or how expensive your radio station is. It’s about people. We want AMC to be shaped by the people who take part. If you have an idea for an activity, talk, net, competition, field day or something completely new, tell us. Get involved as much or as little as you want. No membership fee. No barriers. No elitism. Just people who enjoy radio, helping one another and having a good time along the way.
